Android Market Goes from Mobile to Web

The Android Market has been available on Android devices since October 2008 and during that time many apps have come and gone. The only down side was that you didn’t have the ability to find and install the apps online. On Wednesday, Google changed this by releasing the Android Market Online. The Android Market Online is a great new way to showcase and install all of the available apps in one convenient location.

You can check out the large banner at the top of the page which slides through some interesting games or you can take the more detailed approach by selecting the specific category, including games and applications. Want to know what apps are the best? Just check out the Featured apps, Top Paid apps or the Top Free apps, which can easily be selected on the homepage.

Once you select an app you have the ability to choose your payment method and which device you would like it installed on. The app will be instantly available on your Android device. “No wires, no synching with computers, none of that sort of nonsense,” Chris Yerga, Android engineering director for cloud services at Google said. “Everything just works seamlessly syncing between the two.”

This new feature comes in conjunction with the release of Android 3.0, Honeycomb and additional support for developers in terms of payments.

This is a much better way of accessing apps on your PC than the way that Apple handles them. The free and easy way to use the Android Market online seems to follow the openness of the Android platform.
