Forget June 24th, the iPhone 4 Will Now Ship July 2nd

If you haven’t ordered the new iPhone 4 by now, you will not be getting it until July 2nd, at least that’s what the Official Apple website is reporting (see screenshot below). I could only imagine how angry and frustrated Apple and AT&T customers must be after they’ve spent all day trying to order the device online. Reports indicate that there were issues with AT&T’s systems that Apple.com accessed when trying to validate a customer’s account against AT&T’s database. This error led to thousands of anxious AT&T customers being left with a new delivery date of July 2nd.

Update 2 11:24PM EST – Looks like pick up reservations at the store are no longer available either.

Update 11:19PM EST – “An AT&T insider claims that this iPhonecalypse may be related to “a major fraud update that went wrong.” The bug is exposing AT&T users’ private information…” via Gizmodo.

More on the system issues and the incident related to fraud that occurred over the weekend.

“I do know that there was absolutely NO TESTING of this system done before the launch of the new iPhone. I know it’s just heresay at this point, but I can confirm that there was a major outage over the weekend that impacted all ordering systems and programs, and I can confirm that there were multiple systems being upgraded/updated, with some updates being related to fraud.” via Gizmodo.

I personally know of several individuals who had been trying to place orders since 4AM this morning on the Apple website and kept receiving all kinds of errors. One of this individuals was finally able to get his order in @ 11PM EST, but will have to wait until July 2nd to get his phone. Before being able to buy his phone however, he was on a chat with Apple customer care and was told the following regarding the inability to place the order online:

“The customer service rep apologized for the problems associated with ordering the phone, she said they were working to get the site up again but did not want to give a timeline and that they were aware of the issue.”

These comments echo the response Apple has given customers across the web. I was able to reserve a phone earlier this morning for pickup at the local Apple store.
