Google Nexus One and iPhone 3GS Compared in Pictures

As many of you have heard, Google announced on Tuesday that they were releasing their own Google branded "superphone." Shortly after their announcement the phone went on sale on their website -google.com/phone and was made available in two flavors, subsidized from T-Mobile for $179 ($20 cheaper than the iPhone) or $529 without a carrier. The phone has been described as a "superphone" by Google so I thought it would be a great idea to order one and see what makes this phone a "superphone".

The phone came in and I shot a couple of videos with my HD camera which are taking a little longer to upload to YouTube than expected (subsequent videos will be shot in normal format). While I’m waiting for the videos to upload I figured I could share some pictures of the Nexus One next to the iPhone 3GS.

Videos coming soon…uploading is taking longer than anticipated. In the mean time you can view the images below.

Side-by-side the Nexus is a tad taller than the iPhone yet narrower. You will also notice that the Nexus (3.7") sports a taller screen compared to the iPhone 3GS (3.5").

The Nexus OLED displays rich blacks that make the iPhone appear pale in comparison (image above).

Both phones are about the same depth, the iPhone is deeper by .8mm making the Nexus the thinner of the two.

The picture above is a good example of the difference between the both screens. I set the brightness to approximately the same level and you can see that the iPhone’s blacks are not as dark as those of the Nexus One’s AMOLED screen.

this is all well and good, but what would be interesting to note would be the differences in usability

@colin – Working on those…I have a long weekend ahead of me so stay tuned as I upload and create more videos. Thanks for stopping by. Anything that you would like to see in particular? Let me know and I'll try my best to show on a video. Thanks for stopping by.

Is the nexus as fluid as the iphone when you go, for example, through the contacts list?

Yes…it is very smooth. I imported over 250 contacts from Google Contacts and the response is very smooth. I'll be posting usability videos in the next couple of days as another reader suggested. Let me know if you have any more questions or if there is something you would like to see on a video so that I can post it up. Thanks for visiting.

According to TechCrunch it will ship to, "…customers in the U.S., U.K., Hong Kong and Singapore." Although I'm sure you can buy an unlocked phone and use it in India if there are GSM providers.
