You can also manually make some adjustments to the export from RAW, the same way as you would modify an existing JPEG w/ Picasa's functions.

The output needs a lot more adjustment, specially from the Effects and tuning tabs, to compare to out of camera JPEGs.

For a quick conversion from raw to jpg this works well. However to some degree it is similar to having your camera save a jpg because it limits the control you have on how the raw file is processed. When picasa creates a view of a raw file it makes certain decisions about the photo just as your camera does to show you the image on your lcd. So picasa is making the majority of the decisions of how your raw is processed into a jpg instead of you. Its great for an image that you quickly need to generate a jpg as long as you realize the loss of control.

You can also batch convert all of your RAW pictures to JPEG with Picassa. Just select multiple pictures (shift or ctrl click), then follow the instructions above. That way you can convert an entire folder all at once. It will take a little while, but it's definitely faster than doing it all by hand.
