I have a pop3 email account with cox. I added this account to my ipad, and it works fine with 1 exception: When I go to my PC and download new messages, I cannot access these new messages on the ipad, only on my PC? I am using Thunderbird 3.1.9 on my PC

    • Ali

PC email software is normally configured to delete messages from the POP3 server after downloading them. Mail on the iPad is configured by default to leave POP3 messages on the server. You can, of course, change these settings, both on the iPad and in Thunderbird.

    • http://www.gilsmethod.com Gilberto J Perera

The reason for this is that POP 3 accounts download the messages from the
server…so when you download with your PC, there are no messages left for
the iPad to download. The best thing I can recommend is to use your email as
IMAP which allows for inbox and message synchronization between multiple
devices. You would need to go though your Cox settings to see if that is
possible. The other option would be to use an email client like GMail or
Yahoo to pull all of your messages from various accounts (including Cos) and
then using IMAP on one of those services to keep your emails synchronized.
Check out this guide where I talk about doing this with Gmail (this is what
      I do) – http://www.gilsmethod.com/combine-your-email-accounts-with-gmail

      Hope it helps.

I have successfully set up my iPad to download my mail BUT it is marking them read on the servers which means that my blackberry does NOT download them. Is it possible to leave them marked unread on the servers?
    Michael Moore

    • http://www.gilsmethod.com Gilberto J Perera

I don’t see an option for that, but you may be able to tell the blackberry to download the messages even if they are read.
