How to Create a Photo Collage with Picasa 2

Collage

View Tutorial I've been using Picassa for a while now and find that every time I use Picassa I run into a feature I didn't know it had. With Picassa you have the capability of creating picture collages from the pictures you have stored in your computer. There are several types of collages that you can create;

Picture Pile - Places all of the pictures you selected in a pile one on top another, really neat effect.

Picture Grid - Creates a grid of your pictures on one sheet.

Contact Sheet - Similar to the grid, but pictures have spaces between each other. This one is great if you would like to print your pictures for presentation.

Multi Exposure - This one is really neat, all pictures are blended with each other, creates really nice effects if you chose the right pictures.

Below you will find the steps necessary to create your own picture collage. As always comments/suggestions are welcome.

1. Download and install Picassa.

2. Select the pictures that wish to make a collage out of.

3. With the pictures selected click on Create > Picture Collage...

4. A dialog box will open with several options;

*Type: Select the collage type you wish to create

*Options: Allows you to select which color background you would like to use, you can also set a picture as the background

*Location: Where you would like the output stored.

5. After you have made your selections, click Create

Collage Saving Issues

I absolutely cannot get Picasa 3 to save my collage. I've spento WAY to much time in the help forums and several others are having the same problem, but no word from Googlers on how to fix it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Any suggestions?

RE: Collage Saving Issues

I'm not sure what kind of issue you are having. Picasa 2 & 3 automatically save the Collages to your computer. Feel free to contact me via email using the form on this website (Contact top menu) and I'll help you out.

Can you Print it?

Can you make a collage to print and frame on here or is it just to stay on your computer?

Yes you can...

It actually saves the collage as a JPEG image on your desktop. Let me know if you need help with that. Thanks.

How can I print and save my

How can I print and save my collage? All the options are grayed out.

What options?

The collage is saved in the directory where the pictures you chose are located. It also automatically opens the collage when it is finished generating it. You can Print the collage by clicking on the Print button on the bottom of the screen.
Let me know if this answers your question, if it doesn't please be more specific, which options are grayed out? What dialog box is open? Do you have the latest version of Picasa? etc. Thanks.

About the 12 that become 16...

I choose 12 pics & clicked on collage & Picasa turned it into a collage of 16 pics instead of 12 & it made doubles of 4 pics to make it a collage of 16 pics. I once made a collage of 12 but now it wont do 12.
thanks
BTW how do I sign up?

I checked it...

That's strange, sounds like a bug. I just attempted to create a collage of 12 photos and I'm not having that problem. What version of Picasa are you using? I'm using version 2.7 (build 37.32,0). To check if you have the latest click on the 'Help' menu and select 'Check for updates online' You can sign up by clicking the link below Register

Picasa

Hope you can help a bit further. I've played with the picture pile collage on
Google, but can't seem to figure out a way to include the corners - it cuts off
part of the photo. I've tried 2 photos, 3 photos, 4 photos, 5 photos, etc. The only
way that seems to give the view (no cut offs) I'm looking for is with something
like 20 photos which are too small for what I need. TIA
