Pre-Ordered the iPhone 4? You Might Get it Today

by

iphone4shippingon23rd thumb Pre Ordered the iPhone 4? You Might Get it Today

I just got a message from one of my closest friends indicating that his iPhone will be at his doorstep on the 23rd, a day early. Thinking that he was messing with me because I opted to pick it up at the store when I reserved it online, I asked him to show me the proof, so he forwarded the email from Apple and here it is.

UPDATE 1 – Looks like Engadget is also reporting the same.

UPDATE 2 – USA Today also reporting the 23rd ship date.

UPDATE 3 - iPhone 4 (Video of  iPhone 4 unboxing below) arrived today (June 22nd) – MobileCrunch

So why would Apple ship an iPhone 4 two days ahead of schedule? Thoughts?

Subject: Apple Store – Your iPhone will deliver on June 23rd

Dear Apple Store Customer,
You recently received a Shipment Notification email from Apple advising you that your iPhone has shipped.
This email is to confirm that your delivery will occur on June 23rd. Although Apple and FedEx tracking information may currently indicate a later date, you can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd to track your package to your doorstep.
In the event that you will not be available to accept delivery on June 23rd, it may be more convenient to use our pre-sign delivery option by visiting our Order Status website at http://www.apple.com/orderstatus.
Sincerely,
The Apple Store Team

So it looks like Apple will be shipping the iPhone 4 on the 23rd instead of the 24th, but why? Are they trying to under promise and over delivery to make up for the horrible customer experience last week when customers were trying to place orders? Are they trying to appease all 3G owners that are ticked off because they don’t have Wallpapers and Multitasking? With the iPad, no one not even Wozniak saw it until it was available to the public, so why screw customers like me who reserved our phones at the store and give preference to those who ordered online? A lot of questions…anyone have any thoughts?

Interestingly enough the tracking page from FedEx still shows the 24th as the delivery date.

Hmm, I wonder how many people who reserved an iPhone 4 at a local Apple Store are going to be upset about this. On the flip side, I wonder how furious Apple customers will be if Apple does not come through with this 23rd delivery promise.

I agree…this one is definitely a double edged sword. Why on earth would they do this? It’s just going to PO the people who are waiting in line the following day. I think this is a bad move…

That is one thing I was thinking about, Gil. Maybe they will be available tomorrow? If the i Phones are all at the FedEx and UPS distribution centers and ready to be delivered tomorrow, I am sure that the Apple stores have the iPhone 4s as well.

Do you think Apple is going to sell them on the 23rd? It would seem fair and possible.

  • Jeff

Actually, I wouldn’t doubt they are already at the Apple stores.

Why would they advance the delivery if they were not ready to actually sell them on the 23rd? Maybe Apple will and not announce it, which would cause another problem.

  • macmoo

damn it! I am definitely going to go stand by an apple store tomorrow morning and wait and see. If they are being delivered, prob they are going to be at the store.

damn you apple! stop dominating my life!

    Jeff,

That would be very discouraging for customers who have set time aside, even taken vacation to be at the line for the launch to then be told it would sell the day before. If they do that what happens to the promise of having units reserved for those reserved it for in store pickup. Customers will go to the store and will not be able to buy the phones on the 23rd because they would all be on hold…

    Macmoo,

I’d wait for official word from Apple before doing that. I would hate for you to be disappointed and potentially lose a day at work based on a rumor…

Gil, good point on both my response and jeff’s. i think you are right. it may make sense for apple to do an early delivery, but i doubt they would alter the grand opening on the 24th.

I ordered mine online through the apple store. I got my shipping notification and my FedEx tracking still shows June 23rd delivery. Guess I’ll find out tomorrow if it’s legitimate or not.

    Toby,

Thanks for the feedback and confirmation. I do hope you get it early and I wish Apple had said that there would be a difference in delivery time for pre-orders like yours and those who opted to pick it up at the store. Oh well…lesson learned.

    Gil,

This is insane. To think that those waiting in line on the 24th would be the first ones to get the phone. The opposite has occurred.

  • http://www.gilsmethod.com Gilberto J Perera

    Mike,

That’s what has happened to me. I relied on Apple’s previous behavior of always delivering when they said they would (just like they did with the iPad), but I guess Apple’s not behaving like they usually do and will have to hope that they have enough iPhone’s that day.
