This new feature, currently only available to Chrome development release channel users and hoping to be available on the next stable Chrome release, uses the Safe Browsing API.  The Safe Browsing API holds a list of blacklisted phishing and malware sites and pages that could potentially harm your computer. The API is used by many browsers including Chrome, Firefox and Safari to notify users that a website is malicious.

To start, this new feature will focus on Windows executable files and progress from there. Chrome will notify you if a file is malicious when the site that the file is being hosted on matches a website published by the Safe Browsing API.

This one extra cautionary step could save your computer from harmful files that could easily take over your computer. There’s no stopping malicious file creators, but there’s certainly an effort to try and avoid them at all costs.

I came across this software a few years back, while frantically searching for a good application or website that could easily download and convert YouTube videos. If you find that Floorplan’s interface, set of tools, and options are a bit basic, you are correct, it is a very simple application, but simplicity comes with its perks. To use the application all you have to do is select a shape, set the real world dimensions and place it on the graph paper, repeat until you have all your furniture laid out. There are two options that are really needed to make this application great; the ability to name the objects and the ability to set a boundary for the space you are working on. Other than that the application does a great job of allowing you to quickly draw objects on the screen.

Software/Hardware used: Google SketchUp 8.

1. Draw a circle on the “flat” plane, the plane that is formed by the red and green axes. For beginners, use the Circle tool and start the circle at the origin; this is the point where the three axes intersect. Still using the Circle tool, bring your mouse to the top line of the drawing until the cursor changes to red or green (the colors of the axes of the plane it is on).

To lock the inference direction, hold the Shift key while your mouse is still red or green. Now your sketch should be a circle that is “flat” on the red and green axes plane.

2. Draw a second circle, making it a bit smaller than the first one. Try to draw this circle inside the first, so they intersect. This may help you visualize what the sphere will look like.

3. Click Follow Me in the Tools menu to use the Follow Me tool. On the drawing pad, this will appear as a small tan cylinder with a red arrow. Click the face of the smaller circle, and a sphere-like object should form. Your image will look like Saturn. It will be a sphere with a disk of larger radius around the center. Another way you can use the Follow Me tool exists if you don’t preselect the original circle. Instead, click the second circle, hold the Alt key and finally click the second circle. This will give you the same result.

4. To get rid of this ring around the sphere, use the Erase tool to erase a point on this larger circle. The circle should entirely leave the image, and you will be left with a sphere.

5. If the sphere appears to have rougher edges, open the Window menu, select Display Setting and reduce the size of the endpoints and extensions. You may also turn them off. Look back at your image and see if either of these alterations fixes the appearance.

CoRD for Mac Lets You Access Windows Computers Remotely

CoRD version 0.5.4 was used in the screenshots below.

To connect to a Windows computer simply enter the computer’s IP address and hit Return.

Sign in to the computer and you are set. The application allows you to view the remote computer in Windowed mode (default) or full-screen. You can also change the default screen resolution used for the remote desktop window (see below).

To change the resolution, save passwords, and make other changes to the remote connection, click on the remote computer icon on the left pane and click on the i (Inspector) button. When Inspector opens make the adjustments and close the window.

You can also save Quick Connect computers by right-clicking on the computer icon (left pane) and clicking Keep After Disconnect. I’m currently managing three Windows computers on my network using this application and so far the experience has been flawless.

1. Double-click on the contact you wish to call.

2. A seperate window will open for the phone call. Click on the Call button.

3. Click on the number you wish to use to make the phone call. You can use your Google Voice number or one of the numbers you forward Voice calls.

You can also use GVNotifier to chat with your contacts.

With GVNotifier you can access your Google Contact list, Google Voice Call History and Voicemails.

How to Download YouTube Videos with YouTube Fisher

1. Locate the video you wish to download from YouTube and select the URL and right-click on the browser’s Address Bar.

2. Click Copy from the menu to copy the video’s address.

3. Open YouTubeFisher and right-click in the YouTube video url field.

4. Click Paste from the menu to paste the URL you copied from the browser.

5. You will have the option to download the video or extract the audio from the YouTube video.

6. You will be asked to choose a download location for the YouTube video. Browse to a location, name the file (file name is automatically populated with YouTube title), and choose the video’s quality.

A. You will have the option of choosing one of the following quality levels:

• High Quality Full HD 1080p (.mp4)
• High Quality HD 720p (.mp4)
• High Quality Video (.mp4)

How to Resize Images with Image Resizer

Make sure you download (link at the end of the article) and install the application before proceeding.

1. Select an image or group of images and right-click to open the menu.

2. Click on Resize Pictures.

3. The Resize Pictures window will open. Select the size you wish to resize the images to (use the preset or enter a Custom value).

Note: If you enter Custom values the application does not constrain proportions so make sure you get the resize ratios correct.

4. If you click on the Advanced button you will be able to select the following options:

• Make pictures smaller but not larger.
• Resize the original pictures (don’t create copies). Warning: If you choose this option the original images will be overwritten!

5. When you are ready to resize the images click OK.

The resized images will appear along with the originals (if you chose to keep originals). Note that the resized images will use the name of the original image and the preset you used to resize the image.
