If all the messages are sent, you will get the message sent notification. Otherwise, a red error will popup notifying you that there was a problem sending your message. You have the opportunity to fixit now or later. You don’t have to stop doing what you’re doing just to fix the problem email. However, you should check this problem before you close Gmail, because chances are this problem isn’t going to show up next time you startup Gmail.

Now IE9 has adopted these pinning features for Hotmail, making it seem more like a desktop email client, rather than a webmail client. Within the taskbar you can go to the Hotmail Home, Inbox, Calendar, Contacts or even go directly to sending an email. Just simply right click on the pinned site to get direct access to the pinning features. When Hotmail is pinned it will also inform you when you have new messages, so you don’t have to constantly check your browser for new Hotmail messages.

To pin a website simply drag it from the IE9 window to your taskbar. Many other sites can use the pinning features when used with Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7 like eBay, Groupon, CNN, Facebook and many others.What are you doing to take advantage of site pinning in Internet Explorer 9?

Microsoft has taken some initiative to help prevent hijackers from taking your account. Hotmail is now monitoring for strange activity, such as sending a lot of email that is marked as spam. If Hotmail detects strange activity they will immediately block your account.

You will then have to use the account recovery wizard to help restore your account. Your account can be restored by following some simple steps, but you must make sure you have this information is already in your account; otherwise you’ll have to contact a support representative to help you along.

You should provide a secondary email and phone number so that verification codes can be sent to either medium. Providing these credentials also helps you reset your password if you forget it in the future.

Export Your Hotmail Contact List

1. Click on Options to open the menu.

2. Click on More Options from the menu.

3. When the More Options page opens, click on the Export contacts link below Customize your contacts.

4. Before you can export your contacts you will first need to verify your account by entering the code provided.

5. Click on the Export button when ready.

A. The contact list file will automatically download as a .csv file which can be used by almost any application.

Export Contacts from Yahoo!

1. Open Yahoo! Mail and click on Contacts in the left pane.

2. Click on Tools to expand the menu.

3. Click on Export from the list.

4. Choose a file format that best fits your need. The options offered are as follows:

• Microsoft Outlook – File format for Outlook applications (Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, etc.)
• Netscape/Thunderbird – To be used for Netscape or Thunderbird.
• Yahoo! CSV – Used for other Yahoo! accounts.
• vCard Single File – Single contacts, recommended for Palm Desktop Users
• vCard, Zip of .VCF files – This will be a vCard file per contact of all your contacts.

5. When you click on a file format to export, you will be asked to confirm that you are not a robot. Enter the appropriate code.

6. Click on Export Now to begin the export process.

You will see the message above indicating that the download will start. As soon as the download is complete you will be able to use the downloaded file to import Yahoo! contacts to another contact list.

Note: I used Outlook 2010 and a .pst file created in Outlook 2007 for this tutorial.

1. Click on File to Open the menu.

2. Click on Account Settings.

3. When the Account Settings window opens, click on the Data Files tab.

4. Click on the Add button.

5. Select the .pst file you wish to add.

6. Click OK to open the file.

A. Notice how the file is now listed among the Outlook files available.

7. Click Close to continue.

8. Head on over to the Outlook Navigation pane and locate the file you just added to Outlook. Click on the file name to expand the list. All of the folders contained within the .pst file should be listed. Now you will have access to all of the emails in that file.

In previous articles I detailed how I was able to move from Outlook to Google for all of my email and organizational tasks. In this article I’ll cover how I moved all of my email accounts to Gmail. I’ll walk you through the simple process of adding an account from Hotmail that will be accessible via Gmail. If you have any tips to share, please post them below.

Note: It appears that users can add up to five accounts, if you attempt, as I did to add the sixth account you will received the error message found at the end of this how-to. I used the Hotmail example, but you can add other accounts from Att, Covad, Yahoo, and others.

1. Log on to your Gmail account and click on the Settings link located on the top right corner of the screen.

2. Click on the Accounts tab and click on the Add a mail account you own link in the Get mail from other accounts section.

3. The Add a mail account you own pop-up will appear. Enter the email address you would like to add and click on the Next Step button to proceed.

4. Enter the highlighted information, Username, Password and in most cases you can leave the default options for POP Server and Port. The other option are at your discretion. Click the Add Account button when you are done.

Note: I suggest you add a check mark to Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail. You can also label the incoming messages from this account to help you identify them.

5. Repeat for all the email accounts you would like to add.

Tips

-Error message when I attempted to add more than five accounts – You already have the maximum number of accounts allowed

-Emails are fetched in hour intervals so keep that in mind when you are expecting messages at a certain time. Messages will not come in until Gmail fetches them at it’s predetermined interval. At the moment it does not look like there is a way to modify this interval. However you can manually tell Gmail to fetch the emails by going the Accounts tab in the Settings menu and clicking on the Check mail now link.
