If you’re trying to flip through songs without having to unlock your iPhone, especially if you have a password lock you can use the little unknown feature that will allow you to control the music playing on your iPhone/iPod Touch while it is locked. If you have any comments or questions please use the comments section at the end of the guide.

Software/Hardware used: iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.

1. While your iPhone or iPod Touch is locked, press the Home button twice.

2. When you do this you will notice that basic playback controls on your iOS device will appear. If you have an Apple TV on your network you will also see the option to stream the music to that device.

You can always unlock the iPhone and open the iPod app to control your music, but this may save you some time, especially if you’re on the road listening to some music.

Do you have any other iPhone/iPod Touch tips to share?

Are you annoyed by constant game alerts from Game Center? You are not alone. I tend to be appreciative of alerts because I like to remain current on what is going on, but between email alerts, calendar alerts, text messages, app alerts, and now game alerts I am suffering from an alert overload, which means that, I ignore the alerts rather than look at them. The guide below will show you how to disable the Game Center alert boxes and sounds so that you can start paying attention to alerts that matter.

Note: This will not affect alerts that are specific to a given game.

If you have any comments or questions please use the comments form at the end of the article.

Software/Hardware used: iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1 with Game Center.

1. Tap on Settings in the Home Screen.

2. When the Settings page opens tap on Notifications.

//

3. You will be presented with a list of Apps that have notifications. Locate and tap Game Center.

4. Tap on each of the notification types to toggle them ON or OFF.

Available Notifications

Sounds: Similar to an SMS sound alert. I usually disable it to keep myself from confusing App alerts with SMS messages.

Alerts: These are the alert boxes that appear from time to time, they can be rather annoying.

Badges: Badges will appear as a small icon on the App, in this case Game Center, indicating that there are alerts pending your review.

If you plan on turning off the Sounds and Alerts notifications I recommend you leave on badges so that at least you have a visual notification.

Today Apple introduced the new and improved iPod shuffle among other iPods. Â It seems that people wanted the buttons from the previous generation shuffle and the voice over of the last generation shuffle. Â At first glance, it looks a lot like the previous shuffle that was introduced two years ago with the only exception being that it has buttons on it. Â So, the shuffle seems to be a merge of two generations with a lower price point. The new model gets up to 15 hours of battery life, available in five colors and runs for $49.

If you are looking for a way to transfer files, movies, music, and other content from your computer to your iPad and vice versa then you’ve got to try iPad Magic from Xilisoft. Once installed iPad Magic will become your new iTunes alternative. You will be able to bring your music CD’s and movies to a format that is compatible with your iPad without having to worry about DRM on your device. You will also be able to pull music and movies purchased from iTunes and save those files to another computer as backup, should your main iTunes computer have any problems.

Rather than just review the software I decided to also show you how it works by creating a tutorial showing you how to convert a personal DVD to a format that is compatible with your iPad. I have also included a set of screenshots describing the features found in the application along with the minimum requirements.

Although the application is names iPad Magic, it is compatible with pretty much all Apple portable media devices including the iPhone.
