Why Use YouTube When There Are Better Ways to Watch & Download Videos Online?
Submitted by Gil on January 28, 2008 - 10:56pm.
Well I don't mean ditch YouTube, just use another way of viewing what's on YouTube. iDesktop.tv was designed around the idea of providing users an easy way to watch, search, and even save YouTube videos from their browser. iDesktop is like a Picasa for videos online, it even has the zoom slider, one of my favorite Picasa features (you can change the size of the thumbnails by moving the slider).

Many articles have been written on hacks, tips, etc over the number of ways and things that can be found using Google's search platform. Just today I ran into an excellent post on lifehacker listing the Top 10 Obscure Google Search Tricks. The user response was immense and also full of tips that were not included in the original article. In an attempt to list most of these 'tips' I've compiled a list of the most obscure ones to use at your leisure.
If you think of some that I've missed on this post please fee free to comment and I'll add it to the list.

The Definitive List of Google Maps Mashups
Submitted by Gil on July 6, 2007 - 4:37am.
I've always been a fan of Google Maps, and became even more enthusiastic about the product when Google gave developers the ability to create web applications (mashups) that used Google Maps data in conjunction with other data to display anything on a map. It has been a couple of years since this occurred and the plethora of 'mashups' in existence are in excess of the hundreds. So on this page I will attempt to list all of the Google Mashups in existence today so that they reside on one page. I only ask that those of you who feel I have missed some of these mashups, let me know by posting a comment with the title of the mashup, the address, and what it does. Thanks in advance.
I'll update the page as new entries are made.
1. Zillow.com - Find your home's price and compare it to others on the map.
2. Realestate.ae - Real Estate portal for Dubai

Submitted by Gil on August 15, 2006 - 11:05am.I started my blog/website with Blogger many moons ago. One of my biggest problems with Blogger was the lack of categories among other things. After using it for a while I decided to host my own blog/website using custom CMS software and have been very happy since. 1 year later blogger overhauls their service - still in beta - and I am very impressed.
Today we're launching a new version of Blogger in beta! You've been asking for ways to do more with your blog, and you can with this new release. With the beta you can:

Explore Eco-Friendly Travel with Google Maps
Submitted by Gil on August 9, 2006 - 3:18pm.
I was just at Google's homepage when I noticed a link below the search bar. "Explore eco-friendly travel with Google Maps" it caught my attention, so naturally I followed it and found that Google in partnership with Earth Day Network have created a travel destination portal (not to buy tickets or anything, just a reference site with maps) dubbed Summer of Green that links you to environmentally friendly ways of spending your summer vacations. It has a number of tours for the select destinations, as of this writing they are featuring; Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, and San Francisco.
Now You Can Save Addresses Using Google Maps
Submitted by Gil on August 4, 2006 - 2:35pm.
The Google Maps team announced the ability to save Google Maps locations (addresses) to your Google account when you are logged in. View a screenshot here. Read the announcement below.
"One of the most common requests we've received is for the ability to store a list of personal addresses on Google Maps -- and now you can. To get started, click on the "Saved Locations" link in the upper right corner of the site and sign in to your Google Account. If you're already signed in, this link will take you to your saved locations list -- Google Maps will automatically save every location you search for. You can also go to the Saved Locations list to disable auto-saving of locations or to add, modify, or delete previously-saved locations.
