If you've ever encountered a download that is formatted as a UIF file there are two things you need to be aware of;

1. Ensure you trust the source of this file. At times people maliciously insert viruses and other files that may damage and compromise your PC's security.

2. In order for you to use these files you have to go through several steps before you can even view the contents.

Ever wanted to transfer music from your friends iPod to your computer? Have you ever lost all of the music on your computer and left with an iPod whose music you can't copy? I found a nifty little program by the name of Music Rescue (it used to go by PodUtil) which allows you to connect to your iPod and retrieve all of your music and copy it to your computer. If you're like me, you want to have a positive impact on the people that surround you and the world you live in. Miscrosoft through its Live Messenger service allows each and everyone of us to do just that. Microsoft has commited to share a portion of the ad revenues generated via Windows Live Messenger, so every time you start a conversation and ads are displayed, when any money is generated from those ads, a portion of that money will go to an organization of your choice. At the moment Live Messenger only supports the following organizations;

I use Google day in and day out. I use it for search, email, calendar, and recently spreadsheets. As a daily Google user I find it that it would be nice to able to customize certain aspects of my Google experience. How? You may ask. Well read on!

This little firefox extension not only allows you to instantly access search results from other engines like Yahoo!, and Ask, it also gives you a plethora of options with regards to your privacy and security. One of the neatest features this extension offers is the option to disable ads in your search results, which in turns means more space for the stuff you're actually looking for. I also noticed that you have options to allow Gmail and Google calendar to operate via https, which is more secure that the http protocol. Below you'll see a listing of some of the features the extension offers as well as some suggested settings.

I found a very useful tip while browsing Digg the other day. It allows you to run iTunes from your taskbar, Windows Media Player has a similar feature, but based on the feedback through Digg (number of Diggs) it appears that not many people knew about it. Manually configuring IP address is sometimes a necessity and always good to know. For example you visit a friend who's routers DHCP server is disabled (this is what allows the router to automatically assign IP addresses to devices accessing the network) in which case you would need to tell your wireless card what IP address to use, what gateway to find, and any other required information. iColor Folder allows you to easily color code folders in your computer. Once installed you can right-click on any folder and assign a color to it. I have been using the software for some time now and find it very useful. I color the folders I use most often red so that they automatically grab my attention when browsing that directory, this really helps when you've got 60 folders in My Documents directory like I do.
