Why Use YouTube When There Are Better Ways to Watch & Download Videos Online?

Well I don't mean ditch YouTube, just use another way of viewing what's on YouTube. iDesktop.tv was designed around the idea of providing users an easy way to watch, search, and even save YouTube videos from their browser. iDesktop is like a Picasa for videos online, it even has the zoom slider, one of my favorite Picasa features (you can change the size of the thumbnails by moving the slider).

11 Obscure Google Tricks You Didn't Know Existed

Many articles have been written on hacks, tips, etc over the number of ways and things that can be found using Google's search platform. Just today I ran into an excellent post on lifehacker listing the Top 10 Obscure Google Search Tricks. The user response was immense and also full of tips that were not included in the original article. In an attempt to list most of these 'tips' I've compiled a list of the most obscure ones to use at your leisure.

If you think of some that I've missed on this post please fee free to comment and I'll add it to the list.

Trick #1 - Track your UPS packages without having to log on, etc, just input the tracking number in the search field.

Make Your BlackBerry Look Like an iPhone

I absolutely love my BlackBerry, but I can't help and love the eye candy whenever I see someone with an iPhone, the GUI is absolutely gorgeous. How would you like your BlackBerry to look like an iPhone? It can! It's possible through the creation of a BlackBerry theme by Mathew Rogers. You have two options to install this download, you can either do it OTA (Over the Air) on your phone or via your desktop, it is entirely up to you.

A couple of warnings though;

8700 Series BB must have BlackBerry OS 4.2.1 or later, otherwise your BB may not work

The Pearl (8100) and the 8800 also need OS 4.2.1 or later

The Curve both the 8300 and the 8830 need OS 4.2.2 or later

How to Watch HDTV Channels for Free

How would you like to be able to watch Digital channels on your new HDTV without having to pay for Cable or Satellite? Well if you have one of your old UHF/VHF antenna's still attached to the outside of your home or inside your garage, you might want to pull it out and plug it into your new TV. Digital TV over the airwaves, for free? YES! Some background on this...as TV stations prepare for the switch from Analog to Digital next year February, they are already starting to broadcast your local channels in HD and digital over the airwaves. You don't need a special HD antenna, you just need a TV that can receive a digital signal.

Automatically Download Lyrics While Listening to Your Favorite Music

I was stumbling the net this morning and found an extremely useful plug-in for WinAmp and Windows Media Player. I know most of us use iTunes to manage our music, but for those of you who primarily use Windows Media Player for all of your music listening needs, this is the plug-in for you. It easy to install and works under Vista/WMP11, I have not confirmed WinAmp usability.

Once installed, run Media Player and play a song, you then navigate to your Now Playing screen and the lyrics should show. The plugin retrieves the lyrics instantly and lists them without any kind of advertising, a huge plus. There are really no options available for the plug-in, it is very straightforward. If you have any questions about the plug-in let me know.

The Definitive List of Google Maps Mashups

I've always been a fan of Google Maps, and became even more enthusiastic about the product when Google gave developers the ability to create web applications (mashups) that used Google Maps data in conjunction with other data to display anything on a map. It has been a couple of years since this occurred and the plethora of 'mashups' in existence are in excess of the hundreds. So on this page I will attempt to list all of the Google Mashups in existence today so that they reside on one page. I only ask that those of you who feel I have missed some of these mashups, let me know by posting a comment with the title of the mashup, the address, and what it does. Thanks in advance.

I'll update the page as new entries are made.

1. Zillow.com - Find your home's price and compare it to others on the map.

2. Realestate.ae - Real Estate portal for Dubai
