How to Decompress, Mount, and Burn UIF Files
Submitted by Gil on February 2, 2008 - 1:46pm.![]()
If you've ever encountered a download that is formatted as a UIF file there are two things you need to be aware of;
1. Ensure you trust the source of this file. At times people maliciously insert viruses and other files that may damage and compromise your PC's security.
2. In order for you to use these files you have to go through several steps before you can even view the contents.
The how-to below will list step-by-step what it is that you need to do in order to use these files. If you know of any other way or any other programs that may simplify the process, please let it be known. If you have questions or comments feel free to let me know.

Make Your BlackBerry Look Like an iPhone
Submitted by Gil on January 14, 2008 - 9:45pm.
I absolutely love my BlackBerry, but I can't help and love the eye candy whenever I see someone with an iPhone, the GUI is absolutely gorgeous. How would you like your BlackBerry to look like an iPhone? It can! It's possible through the creation of a BlackBerry theme by Mathew Rogers. You have two options to install this download, you can either do it OTA (Over the Air) on your phone or via your desktop, it is entirely up to you.
A couple of warnings though;
8700 Series BB must have BlackBerry OS 4.2.1 or later, otherwise your BB may not work
The Pearl (8100) and the 8800 also need OS 4.2.1 or later
The Curve both the 8300 and the 8830 need OS 4.2.2 or later
Automatically Download Lyrics While Listening to Your Favorite Music
Submitted by Gil on January 6, 2008 - 1:17pm.
I was stumbling the net this morning and found an extremely useful plug-in for WinAmp and Windows Media Player. I know most of us use iTunes to manage our music, but for those of you who primarily use Windows Media Player for all of your music listening needs, this is the plug-in for you. It easy to install and works under Vista/WMP11, I have not confirmed WinAmp usability.
Once installed, run Media Player and play a song, you then navigate to your Now Playing screen and the lyrics should show. The plugin retrieves the lyrics instantly and lists them without any kind of advertising, a huge plus. There are really no options available for the plug-in, it is very straightforward. If you have any questions about the plug-in let me know.

How to Help A Good Cause While Using MSN Messenger
Submitted by Gil on May 31, 2007 - 4:24am.
If you're like me, you want to have a positive impact on the people that surround you and the world you live in. Miscrosoft through its Live Messenger service allows each and everyone of us to do just that. Microsoft has commited to share a portion of the ad revenues generated via Windows Live Messenger, so every time you start a conversation and ads are displayed, when any money is generated from those ads, a portion of that money will go to an organization of your choice. At the moment Live Messenger only supports the following organizations;

How to Improve Your Laptop's Battery Life Using Vista
Submitted by Gil on May 17, 2007 - 4:55am.
Tamir Khason recently released a neat little application when enabled manages when the Aero effects and the sidebar are activated on your Vista machine. Nick White from Microsoft has admitted to the fact that "...in our testing we've seen that turning on Aero consumes only about 1-4% more of battery life."
The program is designed to disable the Aero interface and sidebar from Vista whenever your laptop is running on battery. The programmer was kind enough to allow the user complete and total control as to when that occurs, the user has options to disable Aero and the sidebar only when the battery reaches a certain threshhold or simply when switched to battery power. The program is very straightforward and easy to use.
