How to Sync Google Contacts with Mac OS Lion

If you recently addded your Google account to Lion so that you can sync calendars, email, and notes, you might have noticed that there was no mention of contacts.

In order to sync Google contacts to Address Book in Mac OS X Lion you will need to add the account and enable syncronization within the Address Book app.

If you try to add contacts sync using LDAP or CardDav for Google you will find that those methods do not work in Lion.

So if you wish to sync your Google/Gmail Contacts with Lion follow the instructions below.

Have there been any improvements in the AB-Google sync in Lion over the way it works in Snow Leopard?

For example in Snow Leopard, Google’s contact groups did not import in AB as groups.  There were also some less frequently used fields that would not transfer from Google to AB.

I believe that Google is the company that is building the sync tool, but perhaps they needed some improvements on Apple’s part (which could have been added in Lion) to add to the capabilities of the sync.
