How to Speed Up Boot Times with Microsoft's BootVis Utility

View Tutorial This short guide will show you how to use Microsofts BootVis Utility to speed up your computers overall boot time. I ran it on my Windows XP desktop and saw a 40% increase in boot time, I went from booting in 41 seconds to booting in 25 seconds. Speed enhancements vary by machine so don't be disappointed if you dont get 30 second boot times, but if you can shave a couple of seconds off your boot time, it's worth the 10 minutes it takes to complete the tutorial.

1. Download and install 'BootVis'

2. Go to 'Start > Program Files > Microsoft BootVis > BootVis'

3. When the program loads go to 'Trace > Select Next Boot and Driver Trace'

4. When the 'Trace Repetitions' screen appears, click 'Ok' and reboot the machine.

5. After rebooting 'BootVis' will appear, click on 'Trace > Optimize System' Reboot your machine.

6. Upon rebooting your machine a screen will appear - Optimizing System box, be patient the operation may take a couple of minutes, when done your machines boot time has been optimized.

Is that a typo or what?

I didn't see any 'Next Boot and Driver Trace' option under Trace. I did see the options 'Next Boot' and 'Next Boot and Driver DELAYS' (I hope that's the one you mean).
