How to Sync Hotmail Messages, Calendars and Contacts with the iPad

I have received numerous emails from readers who would like to add their Hotmail accounts to the iPad so that they can access all of the email folders, calendar events, and contacts much like Gmail users can. If you think that Gmail is the only service that allows you to synchronize all of your email folders, calendars and contacts you are in for a surprise. In the how-to below, I will walk you through the steps necessary to add a Hotmail account to your iPad.

Instead of adding the Hotmail account with the Other account type option we will be adding the account the same way an Exchange account would be added. This enables the iPad to treat the Hotmail account the same way it would an Exchange account. The iPad will be able to download all folders in that account while ensuring that they are always synced with the Hotmail servers. The same applies for Windows Live Calendars and Contacts. If you have any comments or questions please use the comments form at the end of the article.

Enter the following in the Server text box–

Thank you so much for your help Gil, I am very grateful for the assistance your directions gave and the further tips of others.
I was on the verge of giving up and admitting defeat after trying, looking, following, searching for hours with no success but plenty if disappointment.
Wow, what a relief, I now have all my hotmail contacts and files on my iPad properly.
    Thanks again, regards,

Thank you so much for walking us through this with simple, very easy instructions, as well as sample pics. Worked the first time with no problem. Thanks so much because I really prefer my MSN Live Calendar, Contact list and e-mail over Gmail!

    • Great! I am glad you found the guide useful. Thanks for the kind words.

    • This may be a bug on Apple’s part – update to the latest version of iOS (iOS
4.3) to see if it fixes it. Check the knowledge base article from Apple that

Thank you this works great. When I first did it the additional folders I have within my hotmail account, although showing had nothing in them. To resolve this you need to enter the Hotmail Exchange Account on your I-Pad through settings and set “Mail Days to Sync” to “No Limit”
